Editors are useful to authors because it's almost impossible to be objective about one's own work. As the creator, writers may be “filling in the blanks” of what's actually on the page versus the vision in their head, and when you're deep in the forest of your story it's hard to see the path through it.

Media statements
Organisations use a variety of ways to communicate with their clients and stakeholders. One of these options is through media statements. A media statement is a brief written document from an organisation that is distributed to the media to communicate on a large scale. Media statements are usually distributed to communicate a position on an issue, to make a statement relating to the organisation or to clarify an issue. Putting together a media statement entails the basic principles of writing known as the 5Ws and H, What, Where, When, What, Who and How. These should be clearly stated in the first paragraph of the statement with further details continuing in the remaining paragraphs.

Media advisory or press release
A media advisory, also known as a press release, is another form of communication at the disposal of an organisation. Unlike a media statement that is distributed to the media to communicate an issue, a media advisory is an invitation to a press briefing. Instead of the organisation communicating what it needs to in a statement, it arranges a press briefing and invites the media to hear it first-hand. A press briefing also gives the media an opportunity to get clarity on anything that the organisation announces through a Question and Answer (Q&A) session. The 5Ws and H principle of writing also applies to the crafting of a press release although it won’t be as detailed as a statement because the details will be revealed at the press briefing.

Speech writing
Speeches are a means of formal speaking given at various events or platforms. The art of speech writing is not as simple as it sounds even though it is eventually spoken. Speeches also follow the 5Ws and H format (the introduction) irrespective of the theme or length. The paragraphs that follow (the body and conclusion) will give greater detail of the subject. A good speech should be the average of 20 to 40 minutes, informative, engages the audience and contains quotes.

Creative writing is similar to painting, with the canvas as a blank page with potential and the words as the paint that transforms the blank page into a colourful piece. The secret to creative writing is to be as imaginative as possible while using the best combination of adjectives and adverbs to paint the picture. Adjectives can be said to be the paint for nouns, they describe nouns and give them colour. Adverbs work the same way, except with verbs. It can therefore be said that adjectives (describe nouns) and adverbs (describe verbs) are the colour combination that transform the canvas into a work of art.
